Contemporary Dance: Practice and Performance

Wednesdays, 3:15 – 4:30
Jan. 9 - Mar. 13
Grades: 3 – 5

In this class, we will explore post-modern contemporary dance practices and work toward a final performance. Investigations into free movement, dynamics, and expression will guide us to both the movement vocabulary and the final composition to be performed at the conclusion of the course. There will be time spent on “warming up,” floor work, contact, and creative movement studies. Each class will also be spent working on routines, to music, and later polishing routines for maximum joy and ease in performance.

Instructor: Jennifer Kjos has been teaching movement education for about 20 years. She has also had a professional career in New York City plus international touring, for almost 20 years. Jen is still actively performing locally.
